At the Macomb Arts Center (MAC) through April 11, 'A 50-Year Retrospective' offers a rare look into the creative hustle of a man who spent his career analyzing economic theory at Western Illinois University while privately building a visual legacy of the world around him. Yunker describes his art as 'something more than a hobby, but less than an avocation,' yet the 50 pieces on display suggest a mastery that goes far beyond a mere diversion.
His work, primarily oil on canvas, focuses on good to be alive scenes—landscapes and seascapes that range from the rugged coasts of Britain to the familiar, rolling fields of the Midwest.
