Letter to the Editor:
On behalf of the Democratic Central Committee of McDonough County, I would like to congratulate the 400 or so sufferers of Trump Derangement Syndrome who took the time to attend our local version of the national No Kings rally at Chandler Park last Saturday. In exercising their Constitutional right to “peaceably assemble” and to “redress our grievances,' we see an example of true patriotism. A patriotism that reflects the values upon which our country was founded, as opposed to those who have hijacked our flag and who wrap themselves inside it believing that they ALONE represent our diverse and multifaceted society.
Of course, the Trump administration response to the protests represented the juvenile mindset that permeates all of their official responses. The broken record of Trump Derangement Syndrome. We hate America. We’re paid activists. Communists. Even pedophiles (pot calls kettle?). Whatever. Same arrogant mindset that was the demise of the original King who berated the men and women of the 13 colonies who REALLY put their heads on the chopping block to fight for liberty.
Well, we are here to put King Trump and his cult on notice. The people of this country heard his promises of NO More Wars. We heard his regal pronouncements to cut energy costs in HALF in 18 months. ($4 gas?) We heard his blowhard promises to cut inflation and make everything affordable. Promises made, promises kept, Mr. President?
Well, here’s a promise for YOU, Donald. When the American people finally come to their senses, and realize that you and your billionaire gold digger friends have grifted enough of our tax dollars, you’re all going to feel the long arm of the law. Again. Then perhaps we’ll see what great really is.
Dick Marcott Macomb, Illinois
