Bomber Softball Drops Contests to Crimsons And Tigers

It was a rough two days on the diamond for the Macomb High softball team.

On Monday, the Bombers hosted Jacksonville High in non-conference play with visiting Crimsons pulling away for a 22-7 victory in six innings.

Both teams scored three runs in the opening inning before Jacksonville (4-4) took over.

JHS scored three runs in the second inning before tacking on five more in the third that made the score 11-3.

The Bombers scored twice in the bottom of the third, but Jacksonville responded by scoring four runs in the top of the fourth, upping its lead to 15-5.

MHS scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to push the contest to the sixth, but the Crimsons scored six runs on the way to finishing off the hosts for the win.

JHS out-hit Macomb 12-8, but the Bombers also committed nine errors that led to 10 unearned runs.

Kinley Sloan homered and knocked in two runs, also scoring twice for Macomb.

Lauren Schmalshof had two hits and a run batted in, also scoring three times for the Bombers. Autumn Starback had a hit with two runs batted in, while Lilyan Schmalshof had a hit and knocked in a run.

Brooklyn Lyles doubled and scored a run, while Reagan Knowles also had a hit and a run scored. Peyton Corbin also had a hit for MHS.

In the circle, Sloan pitched 3.1 innings. She allowed 15 runs, seven earned, on four hits. Sloan struck out five and walked 12.

Starbuck pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing seven runs, five earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts.

Malin Camerer had three hits with five runs batted in, also scoring three runs for Jacksonville.

Maggie Gerard added one hit with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Maci Moore, Reagan Graham and Kenzie Law recorded two RBIs apiece for the Crimsons.

In the circle, Law allowed seven earned runs on eight hits. She struck out eight, walked three and hit a batter. The following day, the Bombers headed to Sherrard to face their former Olympic Conference foe from years gone by.

The Tigers proved to be rude hosts as they scored 15 runs in the final two innings on the way to notching a 16-1, four-inning win.

Both teams tallied single runs in the first inning and played a scoreless second inning before the Sherrard bats came to life in the third, scoring seven runs.

The home team then closed out the contest the following inning, scoring eight runs.

Sherrard out-hit Macomb 10-5 with the Bombers committing five errors, leading to seven unearned runs.

Lauren Schmalshof had two hits and a run scored, while Sloan added a hit and a run batted in.

Lyles and Olyvia Clark each had one hit.

Sloan pitched 3.1 innings, allowing 14 runs, eight earned, on eight hits. She struck out one and walked seven.

Starbuck pitched onethird of an inning, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits.

Madison Woodward had two hits, two runs scored and three runs batted in for Sherrard (5-0).

Ava Storky added two hits with two runs scored and two batted in, while Kaylee Faccio also scored twice and knocked in two runs.

Tessa Dressens had two hits and scored three times, while Mackenzy Morgan doubled and scored twice.

The Bombers (2-3) are scheduled to return to action Saturday, playing a doubleheader against Rock Island High (3-2) before facing Pittsfield (7-1) at home on Apr. 7.
