MHS Baseball Beats Kewanee High, Edged By Quincy High

The Macomb High baseball team took to the road for a pair of non-conference contests this week, coming away with a split.

On Monday, the Bomber offense got off to a slow start, before scoring all 20 runs in the final four innings and the way to a 20-2 victory.

Tuesday afternoon, the Bombers headed to Quincy to face Quincy High. The Blue Devils grabbed an early lead and did not let go as QHS recorded a 6-3 victory.

On Monday against the Boilermakers, the contest was scoreless through three innings.

MHS broke the scoring ice by plating five runs in the fourth. The Bombers made it 6-0 in the fifth before Kewanee scored twice to narrow its deficit.

But Macomb responded with three runs in the sixth before breaking loose to score 11 runs in the top of the seventh.

The Bombers finished with 23 hits, 11 for extra bases.

Kaden Knupp had three hits, including a double, a home run and four runs batted in. He also scored three runs.

Meanwhile, from his lead-off spot, Isaac Leinbach had four hits, including two doubles and a triple, scoring three times.

Nick Elbe also had four hits, including two triples and a double, knocking in three runs and scoring three runs.

Emmett Beck, Jake Ogle and Blaine Eddington all added three hits apiece. Ogle doubled twice and scored three times, while Beck and Eddington each scored twice. Eddington also had three runs batted in.

Aiden Reynolds had two hits, including a double with two runs scored and two batted in.

On the mound, Barcley pitched four innings, allowing just one hit and two walks, striking out five.

Leinbach threw two innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits. He struck out two, walked two and hit a batter.

Reynolds pitched a scoreless seventh, walking one batter and hitting one.

Logan Peed had a hit and a run batted in for Kewanee High (1-6).

Ace LaFollette also knocked in a run.

Isaiah Ince pitched five innings, allowing six earned runs on 12 hits. He struck out one and walked one.

LaFollette pitched the sixth, allowing three earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Three pitchers threw in the final inning, each recording one out. The combined to allow 11 earned runs on nine hits with two walks and one hit batter.

The following day at Quincy, the Blue Devils struck early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first.

QHS added two runs in the bottom of the third to make it 6-0 before MHS scored three runs in the fifth, all coming after two were out.

Two walks and a single loaded the bases before Kaden Knupp doubled to left, clearing the bases.

But the Bombers got no closer in seeing the season record slip to 5-2.

Elbe also had two hits for Macomb, who was out-hit 7-5, while also committing two errors that led to a pair of unearned runs.

On the mound, Elbe pitched three innings, allowing six runs, four earned, on five hits. He struck out two, walked two and hit a batter.

Hayden Katz pitched the final three innings, allowing two hits and one walk, striking out one.

Noah Wells had two hits, including a double with two runs batted in for Quincy High (4-1-1).

Jacob Salisbury added three hits, including a double, while Kade Parkhill also knocked in a pair of runs for the Blue Devils.

On the mound, Wells allowed two earned runs on two hits in 4.2 innings. He struck out five, walked two and hit two batters.

Ty Lawson recorded the final out of the fifth, allowing one earned run on one hit. He struck out one, walked one and hit a batter.

Chase Saalborn threw the final two innings, allowing two hits, while striking out two.

The Bombers are scheduled to return to action Friday, hosting Geneseo (5-4) at Phil Bradley Field. The team is then slated to head to East Moline Saturday to face United Township (3-6).
