Tornadoes Storm Past Cyclones For Diamond Win

The scoreline of Monday’s high school baseball game between host Abingdon- Avon and West Prairie/ Southeastern featured plenty of crooked numbers.

The two teams combined for 32 runs, 24 hits, 13 errors and 17 walks.

When the final out was recorded, it was the hometown Tornadoes who improved to 6-1 on the season with a 20-12 victory.

After scoring four runs in the top of first inning and three more in the second, WP/SE led 7-1 heading into the bottom of the second.

But A-Town roared back in the bottom of the inning, sending 12 batters to the plate with eight scoring. The frame included seven hits, an error and a hit batter.

The end result saw the Tornadoes grab a 9-7 lead.

Two innings later, a-Town scored seven runs, the big blow being a three-run home run by Owen Timmons that helped A-Town build a 16-7 lead.

The Cyclones answered in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs.

Holden Coplan had a three-run homer and Mason Whitman followed with a solo blast that helped bring the visitors within 16-12.

A-Town responded by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth on the way to securing the victory.

Holden Coplan finished the day with two hits and five runs batted in. Ivan Beck scored three runs, while Kash Lantz scored twice for the Cyclones.

Case Marlow, Eli DeCounter, Lantz and Mason Whitman each knocked in one run for WP/SE.

The Cyclones used five pitchers.

DeCounter allowed nine runs, seven earned on 10 hits in 1.2 innings.

Holden Coplan allowed six runs, zero earned, on three hits in two innings before Austin Nelson pitched one-third of an inning, allowing one earned run on one hit.

Hudson Riebling allowed three runs, zero earned on two hits in 1.1 innings.

Tyson Carnes recorded the final two outs, allowing one earned run on two hits.

Timmons finished with three hits and four runs batted in for a-Town.

Isaac Rodeffer doubled, knocking in two runs and scoring twice, while Elias Carreon also had two hits, knocking in three runs and scoring twice for the Tornadoes.

Kolbe Hightower had three hits, including a double with two runs scored, while Devren Haase Dirth also doubled with two runs batted in.

A-Town used four pitchers.

Timmons started, allowing seven runs, four earned, on four hits and three walks in two innings.

Cooper Anderson threw two innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on one hit and three walks.

Lucas Andrews pitched one inning, allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit with three walks.

Evan Hook pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four to close out the contest.

WP/SE (2-2-1) is slated to play at Beardstown (1-3) on Friday before hosting Ridgewood (3-3) in Colchester on Saturday.
