The Warmth of a Rally

To the Editor:

I participated in the Macomb No Kings 3 rally Saturday, March 28, at Chandler Park. Attendance reports ranged from 250 to over 400. Regardless of the number, it warmed my heart to spend part of my Saturday with people who are concerned about the state of our country and the world. This was a rally of people who share my views on peace, the environment, compassion for everyone on our planet, and the U.S. Constitution. My poster read “Our Constitution is the Law” “No Kings.”

Thanks to the McDonough County Central Committee, especially Dick Marcot and Lee Trotter for organizing and to Indivisible of West Central Illinois for keeping us informed. I also want to thank Bill Maakestad for getting us started with the music we love and to Chris Vallilo for inspiring us with the Woody Guthrie song, “This Land Is Your Land.” It brought tears to my eyes singing that song alongside so many friends. Also huge thanks to Maurice West, Illinois House District 67 Representative and Assistant Majority Leader, who drove three hours to join us and thanks to Pam Davidson, 17th District State Democratic Central Committeewoman, from Galesburg. Regardless of party it’s always good when our elected officials come to visit.

I am grateful for the warm feeling of being a Macomb resident. A place where people care and where we enjoy freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Please join me in letting the world know how we feel. Even 30 minutes can make a difference. We are at Chandler Park every Thursday from 4-6 p.m. and every Saturday from noon-1 p.m.

Thank you, Ross Braun Macomb, Illinois
