Gary Wayne Powell 81 of Colchester, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. Gary was born August 4, 1943, in Colchester to Joseph and Susie Wayland Powell. Gary was united in marriage June 23, 1968, in Blandinsville, Illinois to Patricia “Tish” Martin.
Surviving to mourn his passing is his wife Patricia “Tish” Powell, of Colchester, 1 son: Joseph E. Powell, Alabama, 1 grandchild: Zachary (Amanda) Powell, North Carolina, 2 great grandchildren: Sean Powell and Ciera Powell, 3 brothers: Lyle Powell, Macomb, David Powell, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Danny (Billie) Powell, Colchester, 1 sister: Luella (Phil) Reno, Bushnell, along with many nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Susie Wayland Powell, 2 brothers: Charles Powell, and Bruce Powell, 3 sisters: Barbara Schoonover, Beverly Roberts, and Kay Hocker.
Gary was in the Army for 3 years where he was a medical specialist. He was a member of the Macomb American Legion, and the Bethel Baptist Church. Gary was an avid outdoorsman he took great joy in hunting, trapping, fishing, gardening, and mushroom hunting. He worked at King Seely for 20 years then went on to work for WIU Building Services for an additional 20 years, he then retired in 2006 after 40 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Jones Funeral Chapel in Colchester with Pastor Jim Richardson. Burial will be at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester at a later date. Military Services will be performed at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Jones Funeral Chapel in Colchester, by the Macomb V.F.W. and Macomb American Legion. Friends may sign the register book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.
