The Macomb High softball team slipped to 1-1 on the season following an 18-1 five-inning loss to visiting Liberty Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles broke the game open early, scoring six runs in each of the first two innings in building a 12-0 advantage.
After a scoreless third inning, Liberty scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings on the way to closing out the contest.
Macomb’s lone run of the contest came on a Reagan Knowles home run in the bottom of the fourth. It was the only hit in the contest for the Bombers.
The MHS defense also struggled, committing seven errors that led to 13 unearned runs for Liberty.
Kinley Sloan (1-1) allowed nine hits and nine walks, striking out three. She also hit a batter.
Ava Heming struck out five and walked three in picking up the win in the circle for Liberty (4-0).
Weslee John had two hits and knocked in six runs for the Eagles.
Heming added two hits and two RBIs, while Shea Johnson also knocked in two runs for the victors.
After facing West Prairie/Southeastern Wednesday, the Bombers are slated to head to Vermont Friday for a Prairieland Conference contest against South Fulton (0-2).
On Monday, the Bombers are slated to host Jacksonville High (3-2).
