The West Prairie/Southeastern High School baseball team played to a 4-4 nine-inning tie against Monmouth United Tuesday evening in a contest that was called due to darkness.
United scored once in the bottom of the first before the Cyclones grabbed the lead by scoring three runs in the top of the third.
A walk, single and wild pitch on a third strike led to the first run. Jace Brow followed with a two-run double to center that gave the visitors a 3-1 lead.
WP/SE made it 4-1 in the top of the fourth when Holden Coplan reached on an error and stole second. He scored when Kash Lantz singled to center.
United would score once in the bottom of the fifth before pulling even in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of runs.
But neither team scored during the final three innings as darkness fell.
United out-hit WP/SE 12-7 with the Cyclones committing four errors, compared to one for the Red Storm.
Case Marlow had two hits and scored a run for WP/SE. Matt Whitman, Hudson Reibling and Holden Coplan also scored runs for the Cyclones.
Braden Coplan, Whitman and Ivan Beck also had hits for the visitors.
On the mound, Braden Coplan pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits. He struck out four and walked three.
Eli DeCounter pitched the final four innings, allowing just one hit. He struck out four and walked two.
Nolan Jenks had three hits and two runs batted in for United.
Chance Stewart added two hits, scoring twice, while also knocking in a run. Ian Leffler doubled, scoring a run, while Tucker Smith added a hit and a run scored.
Kellen Boone also doubled for the Red Storm.
United used three pitchers, each throwing three innings. Leffler started, allowing three runs, all unearned, on two hits. He struck out 10 and walked four.
Collin Leary allowed one unearned run on four hits.He struck out two and walked one.
Stewart allowed just one hit, striking out three and walking five.
The Cyclones began Prairieland Conference play Wednesday against South Fulton at Astoria.
The visitors put together multi-run rallies in three innings on the way to securing a 9-2 victory, securing the first-year co-op’s first victory.
WP/SE (1-1-1, 1-0 Prairieland) scored twice in the opening inning before the Rebels (0-3, 0-1 Prairieland) answered with a single run in the bottom of the inning.
The Cyclones built on their lead by scoring three runs in the top of the third that gave the visitors a 5-1 advantage.
After both teams scored single runs in the fifth, WP/SE added two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to close out the contest.
WP/SE out-hit SFR 11-9, also committing two errors, compared to one for the Rebels.
Marlow had two hits, including a double, knocking in three runs and scoring twice, while Matt Whitman added three hits, including a double, scoring three runs for the Cyclones.
Austin Nelson and Mason Whitman added two hits each, both scoring a run, while Lantz added a double with one run scored and one knocked in.
Nelson and DeCounter also recorded RBIs for the Cyclones.
Tyson Carnes pitched five innings in earning the victory for WP/SE.
He allowed two earned runs on seven hits. Carnes struck out eight and walked two, hitting one batter.
Reiblong pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits and one walk, striking out two.
Colby Martin had a pair of doubles, a run scored and a run batted in for South Fulton.
Bobby Welch had two hits and a run scored, while Cooper Davis added a hit and a run batted in for the Rebels.
Walker Yocum also had two hits for the hosts. Welch went the distance for the Rebels, allowing nine runs on 11 hits. He struck out six, walked four and hit a batter.
The Cyclones are scheduled to face West Central (2-1) at Stronghurst on Friday before play Brown County (1-1-1) and Canton (0-2-1) at Mt. Sterling on Saturday.
