The 2026-2027 Macomb City Township budget went on public display recently in the office of City/ Township Clerk Rene Lotz, with members of the township board previewing the budget at their March 16 meeting.
The budget year runs from May 1, 2026 through April 30, 2027. The township will start its new fiscal year with a previous fiscal year surplus of $438,000 in cash and investments. Revenues for the upcoming fiscal year are expected to total $219,947.The salary of Township Supervisor Angela Markley will total $45,864 and the salary of Township Assessor Glenda Bryan will total $44,789. Markley told the township board that the general assistance fund will be decreased in the new budget.
'There are things that will be available to them through local food banks,' she said.
The board is expected to vote on adopting the 2026-2027 township budget on April 20. The board voted to adopt the agenda for the traditional annual township meeting April 14. The agenda will feature a reading of financial statements and will call for a vote on an ordinance to conduct an annual audit of township funds.
Regarding the current fiscal year, Markley reported that 16 general assistance applications were mailed or distributed in February. There were 36 applications reviewed during the month. Decisions are pending on 11 applications, and one application was denied. The supervisor said nine men and seven women were determined to be employable, 10 men and seven women have applied for disability and four men were declared medically exempt from employment. Assistance funding was disbursed in the amount of $13,919, with $9,659 to cover shelter expenses.
Bryan told the board that she is conducting property assessments in the southeastern section of Macomb.
