SRC Offers A Woman Ahead of Her Time: Josie Westfall’s Bold Campaign

Spoon River College will be offering a course titled “A Woman Ahead of Her Time: Josie Westfall’s Bold Campaign” on Thursday, April 2 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm at the Western Illinois Museum in Macomb.

In 1914, before women even had the right to vote, a Macomb woman with no formal legal education made the bold decision to run for City Judge. This interactive workshop delves into the story of Josie Westfall, a socially conscious community member whose determination reflected both local needs and the broader national struggle for women’s suffrage.

Join instructor Sue Scott from the Western Illinois Museum and use local historical sources and suffrage- era materials to investigate Westfall’s motivations, the challenges she faced, and the impact of her campaign on her community and beyond.

There is a $10 course fee and pre-registration is required through Spoon River College Community Outreach. Class will be held at the Western Illinois Museum located at 201 S.

Lafayette St. in Macomb.
