Four high school seniors from McDonough County have been named 2024 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award winners, recognized for exemplifying dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.
The award, presented by the DAR at its March 8 meeting, honors seniors who demonstrate exceptional character and commitment to their communities. Each of the four participating high schools— Macomb, West Prairie, Bushnell Prairie-City, and Rushville-Industry—nominated one senior.
Morgan Lowe is a senior at Bushnell Prairie-City High School. A National Honor Society member and class officer, she balances academics with work and extracurriculars. She is active in FFA and cheerleading while working part-time at Hart’s Nursery, where she has developed a strong work ethic over several years.
Lowe plans to attend college and study English and language arts education.
Maicyn Shipman represents West Prairie High School. For five years, she has been active in FFA, including helping organize Ag Day. Beyond the classroom, Shipman has coached basketball camps and summer softball while strengthening her leadership skills through her church’s youth leadership team and by mentoring junior high students. She plans to attend Western Illinois University to major in early childhood education and hopes to work as a preschool teacher locally.
Avery Esther attends Rushville-Industry High School. Her activities span athletics—volleyball, track, power tumbling, and dance—as well as FFA and student council. She works part-time at Boehm’s Garden Center and on her family farm. Esther plans to apply to the Air Force Academy to major in aeronautical engineering and aspires to fly for the U.S. Air Force.
Griffin Schauble is a senior at Macomb High School with a strong commitment to the arts. She is active in choir, Thespians, and art club while also competing on the math and speech teams. Her other activities include tennis, track, and wrestling. Schauble is a National Honor Society member and Senior of the Month honoree. Her work experience includes two summers as a school custodian, dog sitting, and helping with a local food truck. She plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award recognizes high school seniors who embody the organization’s core values. The award is presented annually to outstanding students across the region.
