The Macomb High baseball squad scored first, but the Bombers saw Jacksonville High rally for a 7-2 victory Wednesday afternoon at the Future Champions Sports Complex.
MHS took advantage of three Jacksonville errors in the opening inning, scoring twice.
Drew Watson reached on an error by JHS third baseman Jack Rohlk. He advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt by pitcher AJ Charpentier that resulted in an error.
Watson scored when Nick Elbe singled to right and right fielder Ethan Kruzan misplayed the ball for an error.
Elbe reached third base and scored when Emmett Beck grounded out to second, giving the Bombers a 2-0 lead.
The Crimsons cut the lead in half with a single tally in the bottom of the third.
JHS then grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring twice.
Charpentier singled before Kruzan hit into a fielder’s choice.
Bentley Lagergren then tripled to right, scoring Kruzan. Lagergren then scored on a two-out wild pitch to give JHS a 3-2 lead.
The Crimsons scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of two hit batsmen and two walks.
Macomb out-hit Jacksonville 6-5 with both teams committing three errors.
Elbe finished with three hits, including a double, while Beck, Jaxon Barclay and Isaac Leinbach each added one hit for the Bombers.
Watson and Elbe scored runs with Beck recording the lone run batted in for Macomb.
Barclay was the pitcher of record for MHS.
In four innings, he allowed three earned runs on four hits. Barclay struck out three and walked one.
Jake Ogle pitched one inning, allowing four runs, three earned, on one hit. He struck out one, walked two and hit two batters.
Hayden Katz also pitched one scoreless inning, walking two batters.
Lagergren had two hits and two RBIs, while Charpentier also had two hits with a run batted in for Jacksonville.
Rohlk and Nolan Peters each knocked in a run, while Joe Reif scored twice for the Crimsons.
Charpentier was the pitcher of record for Jacksonville.
He threw 5.2 innings, allowing two unearned runs on five hits. He struck out 11, walked one and hit a batter.
Cy Kershaw pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing one hit. He struck out one and hit a batter.
The Bombers return to action Saturday, heading to Galesburg.
Macomb will play Sherrard at 4 p.m. before facing the host Silver Streaks at 6 p.m.
