Three members of the Macomb Middle School wrestling team wrapped up their respective seasons this weekend at the Illinois Elementary School Association Class A State Wrestling Finals in DeKalb.
The event was held at the Convocation Center on the campus of Northern Illinois University.
At 65 pounds, Kaden Smock posted a 2-2 record.
In the opening round, Smock was pinned by Litchfield’s Owen Pryor in three minutes, 54 seconds.
Slipping into the consolation side of the bracket, Smock defeated Sofia DeLuna of Ingleside Gavin South by pinfall at 3:34.
Smock then received a victory by medical forfeit over Bowen Tirevold of Sandwich.
Smock saw his tournament run ended however as he was defeated by Forrest Prairie Central’s Kane Deal by a 13-1 major decision.
At 119 pounds, Nick Trotter posted a 1-2 record.
Trotter dropped his opening- round match to Coal City’s Eathyn Rivera by a 9-8 decision.
In consolation action, Trotter defeated Tyler Lee of Prospect Heights MacArthur by default at 1:00.
Trotter dropped his final match, losing to Adric Becker of Genoa-Kingstown by technical fall (19-4) at the 3:09 mark.
At 167 pounds, Sebastian Dieckhoner also posted a 1-2 record.
Dieckhoner was pinned by Declan Georgacakis of Mt. Prospect River Trails at the 1:52 mark in his opening- round match.
Moving into the consolation bracket, Dieckhoner won his next match, defeating Winnebago’s Jamison Scott by technical fall (16-1) at 2:58.
Dieckhoner saw his tournament run ended in his next match as he was pinned by Jerseyville Community’s Caleb Olano in 1:35.
The trio had recorded top four finishes in IESA Class A Sectional C the previous week at Rochester in earning berths to the state finals.
Sixteen wrestlers in each of the 19 divisions in Class 1A and 2A battled for state championships.
