At 1:49 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, the Macomb Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 629 W. Orchard St., where at the time of the call, it unknown if anyone was inside. It was determined that one family member was home at the time and was able to exit through a window with the help of family members prior to the fire department’s arrival.
Fire Department personnel arrived on scene at 1:52 p.m. and observed heavy smoke coming from the structure. The on-duty crew located the fire in the living room and kitchen. The fire was extinguished and a primary search was completed. Several pets were reported to be inside the residence at the time of the fire. Firefighters were able to locate and rescue one dog, which was safely removed from the home; however, despite the efforts of the firefighters, the other pets could not be saved. An overhaul was conducted searching for any fire extension. The fire was brought under control at 2:02 p.m. Six off-duty firefighters were called in to assist at the fire and provide coverage for any additional emergencies. Fire investigators processed the scene, and the scene was cleared at 4:55 p.m.
No firefighters or civilians were injured. Smoke alarms were present and sounding at the time of the fire. The home sustained fire, smoke and water damage and has an estimated loss of $40,500.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental due to the placement of combustibles to close to a heat source and remains under investigation at the time of this release.
At 11:58 a.m., Sunday, March 8, the Macomb Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 308 E. Summit St. for a report of smoke coming from the attic. Fire Department personnel arrived on scene at 12:03 and observed smoke coming from the attic vents. The on-duty crew located the fire above the living room, and a ventilation hole was cut to gain access to the fire. The fire was extinguished and overhaul was conducted searching for any fire extension. The fire was brought under control at 12:36 p.m.. Two fire chiefs and six off-duty firefighters were called in to assist at the fire and provide coverage for any additional emergencies. Emmet-Chalmers FPD also assisted at the scene. Fire investigators processed the scene, and the scene was cleared at 1:37 p.m.
No firefighters or civilians were injured. The home sustained fire, smoke, and water damage and has an estimated loss of $25,000.
The cause of the fire was determined to be caused by an electrical issue and is still under investigation at the time of this release.
