The season came to an end for the West Prairie High School baseball team Wednesday evening at Stronghurst.
Facing top-seeded Monmouth United in a Class 1A Regional semifinal, the Cyclones lost to the Red Storm 11-1 in six innings.
West Prairie wrapped up its season with a final record of 5-16.
United improved to 30-4 in advancing to Saturday’s final where they awaited the winner of Thursday’s semifinal contest between Abingdon-Avon (12-11) and host West Central (5-23).
As for Wednesday’s game, United led 1-0 before grabbing control in the middle innings.
The Red Storm scored four times in the bottom of the third in building a 5-0 lead. The inning included three singles, two hit batters, a walk and an error.
United added three runs in the fourth without the benefit of a hit. That inning included a pair of Cyclone errors, a walk, a hit batter and a balk.
The Cyclones got on the board in the top of the sixth when Matt Whitman singled with one out and stole second. Whitman also stole third base and scored on a passed ball.
The Red Storm closed out the contest in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs, taking advantage of four hits in wrapping up the contest by run-rule.
United out-hit West Prairie 10-3 with the Cyclones also committing five errors.
Whitman had two hits with a run scored, while Cade Chambers also had a hit for West Prairie.
Eli DeCounter pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 11 runs, six earned, on 10 hits. He walked three and hit four batters.
Nolan Jenks knocked in three runs for United with Elliott Copeland and Kellen Boone each scoring three times.
Wyatt Stockdale added two hits and three runs batted in for the Red Storm.
Tanner Rogers struck out 10 and walked two to pick up the victory on the mound.
