McDonough County Genealogical Society

503 West Washington Street – Macomb

James Wesley Bugg was born in Virginia. When in his early teens he moved from Ohio with his father’s large family and settled in Emmet Township. In the Spring of 1899, J. Wesley and his wife Margaret (Maggie) Bingham moved to Macomb and lived at 503 West Washington Street. He was a farmer and a school teacher, becoming one of the best-known educators in the county. He was an intense student and a deep thinker, and the very labor along these lines is believed to have caused impairment of his mental faculties during the last years of his life. This home still stands today.
