
James “Jim” Bennett, 82, of Ashland, widower of Janis Bennett, went to be with his Lord on Monday morning, February 23, 2026, at Morning Pointe with his family by his side.
Jim was born June 22, 1943, in Peoria, IL, to the late Vincent D. “Bud” Bennett and Zelma E. Stephens Bennett.
Jim proudly served his country in the US Army. Jim was a graduate of Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. He went on to work for Ashland Oil and retired as a chemist with Lab #2. He was a member, a deacon, a youth leader, a Sunday School teacher, worked the sound booth during Judgement House, and a valuable volunteer in the accounting room at Unity Baptist Church in Ashland.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Janis Bennett, in 2013, and a brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Anita Bennett.
Survivors include two sons, Scott Bennett and his wife, Quin of Canton, Ohio and Jason Bennett and his wife, Misha, of Ashland; three grandchildren, Geoffrey Bennett, Sydney Bennett and Jun Jun Wang; a sister, Christine Scheniger and husband Jack of Lafayette, IN; several nephews, a niece, his Morning Pointe family, and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral service was held Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester, with Rev. Jim Clayton. Burial followed at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester with Military Rites by the Macomb V.F.W. and Macomb American Legion.
