Letter to the Editor: Supporting Petitgout

To the Editor:

I am proud to endorse Nick Petitgout for re-election as McDonough County Sheriff.

My connection to McDonough County dates back to 1986, when I was a student at Western Illinois University. I returned in 1999 as a 10-year veteran of the Illinois State Police. The first McDonough County sheriff I worked with was the late Stan Carman, and I have worked professionally with every sheriff since.

During my final 14 years with the Illinois State Police, I served as District 14 Commander, collaborating with sheriffs across 10 counties. My endorsement is based on many years of professional interaction with both candidates for sheriff.

I first met Nick when he was appointed a detective in 2008, and later when he became chief deputy in 2015. From the beginning, I was impressed by his energy, professionalism, respectful demeanor, and ability to communicate important facts clearly and concisely.
