To the Editor:
I have supported Nick since he was in college, when I first employed him many years ago. I had the privilege of watching him grow firsthand into an extraordinary man of character. His dedication to service has always stood out from his sacrifice and commitment to our country as a Marine, to his decision to serve our community in law enforcement. He was an exemplary employee, dependable and principled in every way.
Over the years, I have continued to watch him protect our county as Sheriff. Those of us who live outside of Macomb have always felt safe knowing that he and his deputies are looking out for us. His leadership has fostered a department of men and women who serve with integrity and professionalism.
What has always impressed me most is that Nick’s faith and family are at the forefront of who he is. He and his wife, Stacie, have raised two wonderful young men, and it has been a joy to see the values they live out daily in both their home and their service to others.
It saddens me that in these times, we seem more divided than ever, not just between parties, but within them. We have drifted far from simply being Americans first. Too often, differences have created deep divides instead of meaningful conversations. I believe leaders like Nick remind us that service, character, and commitment to community matter more than labels or factions.
