BUSHNELL - Napier Roofing in Bushnell recently finished its newest expansion located on the south end of Bushnell on 1800th Rd.
Andy Napier, owner of Napier Roofing, had purchased the land with two pole buildings, one on each end of the property, from Bushnell native and contractor, Bob White in 2021. The two pole buildings were completely revamped with concrete flooring, new paint and most recently, connected with a 6000 sq. ft building making the total size of the structure at 12,000 sq. ft.
The building now includes plenty of storage space for materials and equipment, complete with finished and heated floors and plenty of room to add a large woodworking shop to make custom doors and cabinetry. The 3 buildings, now one, are fully climate controlled. Office space is accessible by a custom made door leading up a stairway in the main building. The 1400 sq. ft. upstairs includes 3 offices, break room, conference room and full kitchen.
Napier said 'It's kind of fancy for a warehouse and construction shop, but when we bring people in, we want to show off what we can do.'
Napier, who is a Quad Cities native with over 35 years of roofing and construction experience, 17 years as a foreman for a large commercial/residential roofing company, moved to Bushnell in the end of 2012 after meeting his now wife, Alicia. He decided to get his roofing license in 2014 and he and his son began Napier Roofing, working out of his home garage. As any small business, growing can be painful..' every small purchase seemed to be monumental and now I look at where we are today and where we started from, it just seems crazy...' Napier said. 'Within 2 years we built an additional 1200 sq. ft. shop at the house and by 2015 added 2 more guys to the crew.'
Business did not slow down, in fact, they added guttering to the business and by 2024 were also installing siding, windows and doors adding 14 full time employees. The need for a large space became crucial, so the timing of the purchase in 2021 could not have been better, making the expansion this past year a necessity.
An additional bonus came along earlier this year, when Bob White, the contractor that Napier first purchased the ground and buildings from, decided to retire from self-employment and joined the Napier team. ' His knowledge and expertise is invaluable. Bob has over 50 years experience and helps with general construction projects. Napier has also hired 3 carpenters for new builds, remodels, and custom work.
Also new to the Napier team is Devon Raleigh, who heads up the sales department and helps with estimating and scheduling.
It is important to Andy Napier that he works with other local companies and keeps money local. 'We reach out to Batson's for much of our plumbing and electrical needs and West Side Lumber and Crossroads in Macomb for materials. ' They also work with many local concrete companies for large jobs, for smaller jobs they have been using their own crews.
Napier went on to say, 'We don't take shortcuts, we don't bargain shop, we don't quote a customer one price then purchase less expensive, inferior products. We get the best materials for the job and provide the best work we can do, and I have high standards. I want to be the best and I feel we ARE the best at what we do.'
He also takes great care of his employees, 'I make personal relationships with my employees, I consider them an extension of my family. I only ask from them that they show up, do their very best and always be honest.'
Napier's future plans include building and designing custom barndominiums, cabinetry and furniture.
