Ramp Up Macomb Initiative in Planning Stages

A new in-the-works nonprofit in Macomb is getting geared up to help area businesses become more accessible for their customers.

Seed of Change, which is being coordinated by a team composed of Anthony Kosel-Woodford and Lisa Murray of Macomb, along with a few others, is working to establish its nonprofit status so the group can begin working to build portable ramps for Macombarea businesses. Created in early January by Kosel-Woodford, who is the builder behind six 'Little Libraries' and two 'Little Food Pantries' in Macomb and Bardolph, Seed of Change is designed as a community service nonprofit.

'I met up with some other ambitious people just wanted to do more, and through this nonprofit, we'll continue the little pantries, Free Flow Macomb {a program that places feminine hygiene products free for the taking in 24 gas station and business restrooms around town}, along with other services,' Kosel-Woodford explained.

While waiting to obtain its nonprofit status, the group is working on building a website with information about area resources, and once established, they'll be getting Ramp Up Macomb off the ground. Kosel-Woodford got the idea for Ramp Up Macomb while he was visiting his family.

'I saw a broken-down wheel chair ramp and wondered how it would be useful to anyone in that condition. The idea bloomed from there,' he shared.

To get a ramp installed or for more information, businesses can email Kosel-Woodford and his team at [email protected]. At the present time, the group will be offering the services to businesses only, but hope to open the service to community members in the future.

As part of Ramp Up Macomb, volunteers will build a ramp, after obtaining needed permits and following zoning laws. The ramps are no cost to the business; however, donations of funds and/or building materials will be helpful so the group can continue its mission at no cost. They're currently raising money by selling screen printed t-shirts for $25 each. The designs can be seen on their Facebook and Instagram pages (search Seed of Change Macomb), and orders can be made by emailing at [email protected].

'We are just a group of four like-minded, ambitious, hardworking individuals who just want Macomb to be a better place for everyone,' Kosel-Woodford added. 'We hope others will join us to make our goals a reality.'
