Donald (Don) L. McSperritt

89 of Adair

Donald (Don) L. McSperritt age 89 of Adair, passed away with his family at his side on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at his home in Adair. He was born August 24, 1936, in Macomb, to John and Rowena Powell McSperritt. Don was united in marriage April 7, 1956, to Maralyn Skiles, they enjoyed 69 years together. She preceded him in death July 13, 2025.

Surviving to mourn Don’s passing is 4 daughters: Diana (Tony) Hawkins, Nixa, MO, Debbie (Jeff) Martindale, McLean, Amy (Bob) Kelley, Carthage, Melissa (Paul Gonzalez) McSperritt, Peoria, 1 son: Jeff McSperritt, Adair, 11 grandchildren: Jeremy Hawkins, Krista Perez, Matt Hawkins, Meredith Wilken, Misty Phillips, Lance Kelley, Lyndsay Cole, Christopher Stein, Kayla Stein, Jordan Stein, Jared Stein, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 sister: Linda Duncan, Macomb Illinois, along with several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 infant daughter: Donna Sue McSperritt, 2 sisters: Betty Smith, Dot Walters, 6 brothers: Bill McSperritt, Bob McSperritt, Frank McSperritt, Joe McSperritt, Eldon McSperritt, and Jimmy McSperritt.

Don had worked at Haeger Potteries in his early life, then at Coggeshall Construction and Hillyer Construction, he was the Black top plant operator for both. He was a member of the local Laborers Union, and a member of the Macomb Elks Lodge. Don enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and brother in laws, along with mushroom hunting, picking wild berries and bird watching. He was well known for his bread baking and jelly making along with growing his large garden. You couldn’t go to Don and Maralyn’s home without bringing something home from their garden or a jar of jelly . Don attended the Macomb Assembly of God Church. Don and Maralyn enjoyed many hours sitting in the swing on the front porch. Don’s wife and family was the center of his life, and he loved them very much.

As per Don’s wishes, Cremation rites have been accorded. Friends may sign the register book and leave memorials at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday, April 3, 2026. A family graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb. Memorial is to McDonough District Hospital Hospice.
