Board Allows Garage Widening

The Macomb Board of Zoning Appeals voted Wednesday to allow a variance for a setback of three feet, instead of the normal five feet, from the lot line of 708 South Johnson Street. Property owner Clay Wiemerslage said that his garage burned down and that the variance would enable him to make it wider when he rebuilds it.

The dimensions of the garage would change from 12 feet by 20 feet to 14 feet by 24 feet. Community Development Director Miranda Lambert told board members that four messages of support had been received from neighborhood residents. She said the garage that burned down had been grandfathered in at a larger size.
