To the Editor:
Since 1987, I have interacted with five different men who have served as Sheriff of McDonough County. While we have been blessed with fine leadership in the past, it is now time for a change. It is time to elect Joe Moon.
The Sheriff’s Department currently faces critical challenges that can no longer be ignored: historically low employee retention, an all-time high in lawsuits against the county, and a decline in community patrols. While some attribute these issues to pay or outside circumstances, many former deputies and law enforcement officers point to a single root cause: a lack of leadership and training.
Joe Moon has the experience, the training, and—most importantly—the genuine desire to provide the leadership our county is currently missing.
Throughout this campaign, he has remained positive despite ongoing drama surrounding the current office.
If you want a safer McDonough County for both residents and the officers who protect us, Joe Moon is the right choice. Please join me in voting for Joe Moon on or before March 17th.
