Vote No on Voucher Proposition
The League of Women Voters of Illinois recommends voting NO on the proposition at the end of every primary ballot in McDonough County. Although the wording is misleading and seemingly benign, the intent is to allow the federal government to use funds as vouchers for private school tuition.
As a retired public school teacher, I am opposed to using taxpayer money for other than public schools, which are always underfunded and must educate every child in the district, unlike the selection of students for private schools.
“Opting into the federal school voucher program will undoubtedly and irreversibly erode Illinois’ public school funding which is why we urge all voters to vote NO on this ballot question.” Although this is a nonbinding resolution, we need a clear message: Illinois says NO to vouchers.” (lwvil.org)
