On Friday, February 27, the public is invited to get a behind-the-scenes look at the Macomb High School Theater students’ upcoming production of Annie. A special open rehearsal workshop will be held at the Western Illinois Museum beginning at 3:30 p.m., culminating in a brief performance of a Little Orphan Annie-inspired radio drama at 4:30 p.m.
During the workshop, MHS Theater students will participate in a workshop rehearsal to learn about the Great Depression era, which is the historical setting of Annie. Using historical materials, primary sources, and creative performance techniques, students will re-enact a Little Orphan Annie radio drama to demonstrate how actors, stage crew, musicians, and sound effects teams work together to bring a story to life. The workshop will build teamwork and research skills needed to prepare for their full-scale theatrical production.
This open rehearsal gives families, friends, and community members a deeper appreciation for the creativity, teamwork, and effort that go into producing a theatrical performance. The event also offers a sneak peek at the work students are doing as they prepare for performances of Annie at Macomb High School on April 9, 10, and 11.
This program is partially supported by grants from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
