Though I’m normally not a sports fan, love the Olympics. Have spent too many hours in front of the TV in the last two weeks but this opportunity only avails itself every two years so feel the need to just stop and enjoy the experience. There were very highs including winning both the men’s and women’s hockey games and the very joyful win by Alysa Liu in figure skating to the very low of Ilia Malinin’s falls during his performance. Also, nice to “see” places I will never actually be able to visit. It was great to see “older” people being successful in sports. Hope you too were able to catch some of the great moments during the Olympics.
Have read the three columns about solar in the Community News with great interest as the breaker was thrown on my ground mounted solar panels on June 21, 2020. They were designed and installed by Tom Ohnemus a local contractor. Have had no problems with them and they provide enough energy to pay all my electric bills though I still pay Ameren to be hooked to the grid. Do not think however that I do not get an Ameren bill because I heat my home with natural gas which has nothing to do with my solar panels so some of my Ameren bills are pretty amazing. Since I was sort of early to the solar world I would now investigate more about putting them higher so that one could park under them or grow some shade loving plants under them. Loved that the news articles mentioned using sheep in the solar fields and growing flowers and other crops in them. To the lady who complained that a solar field near her home would create noise and lower her property values, I just don’t believe that is true. There is absolutely no noise from solar panels and I would so much more like to live next to a solar field than many other things.
Bought a lot of hand sewn quilts this week. Come and see them and the other thousands of items in my store. Thanks to friends and customers who shopped this week. One meets the nicest people in the world of antiques.
The Hancock County Historic Society met in Carthage Saturday evening. The topic was the Moffitt Farm near Nauvoo which has been in the same family for over 200 years and multiple generations. Was a great program and there was a good crowd for it. Great group.
Still working on getting things into my trust. It is not as easy as I would have thought. There is much to learn and I am thankful for the help from the ladies in the recorder’s office at the court house and at the DMV. Thank You Made a quick trip to Quincy to get shop vac to clean my car and also washed the car. My poor car got a door smashed the second day I drove it and now has a scratch on the lower front bumper but surprisingly I am grateful for the scratch. I have two kitties who run in and out of the garage whenever the door is opened. I am very careful to try to figure out just where they are but they often change their minds and run both in and out. So, when I heard a noise, I was very upset thinking I might have hurt one of the kitties but in reality had only scraped a bench on the drive.
Have a great week. Scatter Kindness and Love.
