White Reviewer’s Occupation: General Surgeon Book Title: All Quiet on the Western Front Book’s Author: Erich Maria Remarque Of course, you may have seen the film (I have not), but I would encourage even those of you who have seen the film to check out the novel. For those who are not familiar, the book, published in 1929, is a vivid story of World War One’s trench warfare as told by a young German soldier. The story graphically describes life in the trenches, focusing on dehumanization and gruesome realities that are war. Let us not forget the evil that man is capable of when hate and vitriol triumph over forgiveness and understanding.
