Macomb High junior Jeshua McPheeters finished his season posting a 1-2 record in the Illinois High School Association Class 1A State Wrestling Finals.
The three-day competition was held at the State Farm Center on the University of Illinois campus in Champaign.
Wrestling in the Class 1A 175-pound division, McPheeters, the No. 7 seed, won his opening match against Lawrenceville junior Nick Morehead (31-12), the No. 10 seed, by a 14-11 decision.
In the quarterfinals, McPheeters was defeated by Chicago Hope Academy junior Arkail Griffin by technical fall (19-3) in 58 seconds.
In consolation competition, McPheeters was pinned in 2:11 by Pontiac sophomore Lucas Maier (42-5), the No. 9 seed.
McPheeters finished his season with a final record of 39-12.
Griffin entered as the No. 2 seed. He eventually advanced to the title match against Coal City’s Brock Finch, the No. 5 seed.
Griffin defeated Finch by a 12-2 major decision to capture the title, finishing his season with a final record of 46-1.
Finch finished with a 38-3 record. Meanwhile, Beardstown senior Gunner Looker, who had defeated McPheeters in regional and sectional competition, won his opening round match before being defeated by Finch in the quarterfinals.
Looker, the No. 4 seed, was then defeated by Pinckneyville’s Jonathan Ramaker by a 2-1 decision to finish 1-2.
Looker finished with a final record of 42-6.
