To the Editor:
Last Saturday I awakened to a Valentine’s Day Facebook post from the site belonging to a local business. It was obviously meant to be a personal post, but I suspect it was mistakenly sent to their business page, and therefore was affiliated with that establishment.
The message, hateful and laced with expletives, was directed at our sitting governor. I couldn’t help but wonder how many of our young people might have seen it. It was subsequently deleted I found it offensive and revealing. Offensive in its crude content. Revealing as to the ignorance. Much like a teenager getting caught in a lie.
It is yet another example of the hateful rhetoric that unfortunately permeates our political climate today. It illuminates the unabashed arrogance and cowardice that is not only condoned but astonishingly encouraged and trumpeted in President Trump’s MAKE America great again movement. Today it is fashionable to attack anyone who even THINKS about questioning administration decisions. Now it’s COOL to belittle people.
I want to know. When did the American people decide it was OK for an administration to spend OUR tax money to intimidate its own citizens without any accountability? Merely asking for an explanation is now tantamount to sedition.
I can only HOPE that this business is ashamed and embarrassed enough to issue an apology. I welcome any rebuttals. Happy Valentine’s Day.
