Spartans Clawed By Wildcats

The Bushnell-Prairie City High School boys basketball team headed into the final week of its regular season playing a pair of road contests.

On Monday, the Spartans travelled to Cuba to face North Fulton in a Prairieland Conference crossover contest.

The host Wildcats celebrated their senior night in grand style, recording a 51-16 victory over the Spartans.

North Fulton rolled out to a 23-4 lead after the opening eight minutes and held a 33-8 halftime advantage.

The Wildcats enjoyed a 46-11 lead after three quarters. Dylan King led B-PC with four points. Braylon Griffitts added three points, followed by Connor Palm, De’Arion Ruffin-Thomas, Christian Gryabill and Thomas Anderson with two points each.

John Malda added a free throw for the Spartans. Eight different players scored for North Fulton as the Wildcats upped their record to 20-7. It is the first 20-win season ever for the Cuba/Spoon River Valley co-op boys basketball program.

Brody Thum led the way with 12 points, followed by Connor Munson with seven.

Ashton Warfield, Kolby Cleer, Bo Hoops and Kixon Bowles all chipped in six points apiece for North Fulton.

JV play saw B-PC lose to North Fulton 43-27. The Spartans (3-22) returned to action Thursday heading to Elmwood (15-12) for another Prairieland crossover contest.

B-PC will begin Illinois High School Association Class 1A Regional play on Feb. 23, making a return trip to Cuba for a rematch against North Fulton.

The winner advances to semifinal play on Feb. 25 at Rushville, facing either Lewistown or Mendon Unity.
