Commission Supports Resident's Special Use Request for Front Yard Parking

The Macomb Planning Commission voted unanimously last week to recommend a city ordinance establishing a special use to allow front yard parking at 920 N. State St. Michael Miller told commissioners that he and Patricia Billeck recently bought the property.

Miller said he wants to build a driveway and parking pad because Billek has difficulty walking. He said this would allow her to drive up to an access ramp that he'll build near the front door. Community Development Director Cesar Suarez said he received a letter from the Social Security Administration confirming Billeck's disability.

Suarez said the two-acre property is zoned residential. He said culvert placement would be needed to give the city access to an underground water main. The director said his staff recommends approval of the petition.

'It meets the special use requirement,' he said of the request.

In other business, Suarez said a consultant would be hired in late April to begin work on a new city comprehensive plan. Also, City Attorney Lisa Scalf said the city council's general government committee is in favor of combining the planning commission with the Macomb Zoning Board of Appeals. She said she will begin working on the mechanics of the merger.
