Season Ends For Lundgren And Hyde At Sectional Meet

The season for Macomb High girls wrestlers Avery Lundgren and Dru Hyde came to an end Saturday in Illinois High School Association Sectional competition at DeKalb.

Wrestling in the 190pound division, Lundgren posted a record of 2-2 in wrapping up a top eight finish.

She opened action by defeating Washington’s Khloe Cremeens by pinfall in two minutes and 36 seconds.

In the quarterfinal round, Lundgren was pinned by Rockford Guilford’s Anjanne Haywood in 4:53.

Lundgren rebounded to win her next match, pinning Dunlap’s Atalyssa Craig in 3:24.

In her final match, Lundgren was pinned by Yorkville’s Janiah Murray in 2:37.

Meanwhile, wrestling in the 145-pound class, Dru Hyde also posted a 2-2 record notching a top eight finish.

Hyde began competition by pinning Kaneland’s Caitlyn Manier in 5:21.

In her second match, Hyde lost to Washington’s Paytyn Dykes by a 1-0 decision.

Hyde pinned Minooka’s Melody Williams in 2:34 before being pinned by Kewanee High’s Aaliyah Swearingen in 3:37.

Lundgren and Hyde placed second and third respectively in their weight classes in regional competition at Geneseo in advancing to the Sectional.

First, second, third and fourth place winners from each weight class advance from Sectional to State Final competition.

The State Finals are scheduled for Feb. 27-28 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.

Sixteen (16) wrestlers in each weight class will compete for championship honors.
