LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Ag Mech Show Impressive

Letter to the Editor:

On February 7-8, Western Illinois University hosted the 54th annual Agriculture Mechanization (Ag Mech) Farm Expo—recognized as the nation’s largest student-run agricultural event. In recent years, the show had included less agricultural content, but this year marked the beginning of the “Revitalized Farm Expo,” with a renewed focus on agriculture.

Several local businesses offered feedback and support to the students, Club Advisor Dr. Dan Atherton, and Department Director Dr. Keela Trennepohl. Everyone involved was open to suggestions, and the club members took the initiative to bring those ideas to life. Congratulations are in order for their impressive efforts!

Western Hall was packed with agricultural businesses and related vendors. The students listened to business concerns and responded by making significant improvements—not just small changes. Many new exhibitors participated, returning vendors rejoined the expo, and a new feature allowed vendors to present upcoming equipment, products, and trends in agriculture in short sessions held in the Hall of Fame room.

Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s show, and if you missed it, please consider coming next year to experience how the Ag Expo continues to evolve. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Western Illinois University, its Agriculture program, the Ag Mech Club, and the many other programs, clubs, and services that WIU has to offer. Once again, congratulations to the Ag Mech Club, Dr. Atherton, Dr. Trennepohl, and WIU for hosting a successful event!

A special thanks goes out to attendees who supported the McDonough County FFA chapters (West Prairie, Macomb, and Bushnell-Prairie City) by purchasing raffle tickets for a Herd Seeder or $500. The students did an excellent job selling tickets and explaining that the seeder was donated and that all the money from the raffle ticket sales will be split between the 3 school districts. Great job FFA Members!

Also, congratulations to the winner of the raffle, who chose the spreader and wished to remain anonymous!
