Second Half Struggles Burn Spartans In Loss To Suns

Leading 27-21 at halftime against host Southeastern, the Bushnell-Prairie City High School boys basketball team appeared to be in a good spot Wednesday night.

The final 16 minutes proved to be a different story however as the Spartans managed just four second half points, allowing the Suns to roll past the visitors 58-31.

Southeastern improved to 2-14 on the season, while B-PC dropped to 3-21.

The opening eight minutes saw De’Arion Ruffin-Thomas lead the B-PC offense, scoring eight points. Meanwhile Braylon Griffitts and Connor Palm combined for eight points as the Spartans led 16-10 heading into the second frame.

Both teams scored 11 points in the second quarter, leaving the Spartans with a 27-21 advantage as halftime arrived.

The tide turned in the third period as B-PC was outscored by the Suns 23-2.

Brady McClintock scored six points for Southeastern, while Kash Lantz and Chase Northern added five points each as the Suns bolted to a 44-29 lead heading into the final stanza.

After managing just a Griffitts basket in the third quarter, Palm provided the lone basket by the Spartans in the final eight minutes as the Suns rolled to the win.

Ruffin-Thomas and Palm topped B-PC with 10 points each.

Griffitts added seven points, followed by Logan Ash and Christian Graybill with two points apiece.

Gunner Walker and Lantz topped Southeastern with 13 points each. Tristen Hester added 11 points for the Suns.

In the JV contest, B-PC recorded a 60-46 victory.

The Spartans return to action Monday, facing North Fulton (18-7) at Cuba.

On Feb. 19, B-PC will play at Elmwood (15-10) in wrapping up the regular season.
