Letter to the Editor:
I have lived in McDonough County for most of my adult life. We live in Macomb, work in Macomb, go to church in Macomb, and in the fall will have three children attending school in the Macomb School District. Additionally, I've had the privilege of serving in public office here in McDonough County. Many of my family members & closest friends live here, and it matters to me who serves us in the halls of power. We need a sheriff who will be solely focused on serving the needs of the residents of McDonough County. The following quote often attributed to Mark Twain, is: 'Politicians and diapers must be changed often, and for the same reason.'
A 2023 Pew Research Center survey found that 90% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents favor term limits for members of Congress. Our current sheriff has been in office since 2018. He's had his time to lead, and it is time for change. If eight years is long enough for president, it’s also long enough for sheriff. Power corrupts. The longer a politician is in office, the more powerful they become & the more likely corruption increases.
I applaud Joe Moon for running a positive campaign. Looking back, I wish I had been more of a voice for a positive campaign in the 2022 election. We live and we learn. Moon has my support for sheriff of McDonough County. I believe he will have a POSITIVE relationship with the state police. I believe he will have a POSITIVE relationship with the smaller communities in our county. I believe he will have a POSITIVE relationship with the citizens he serves & the employees who work for him. I’m POSITIVE I’ll be voting for Joe Moon. I hope you’ll join me.
