Carl Sandburg College’s Carthage campus is expanding its community education offerings for the spring and summer semesters. A variety courses are already on the schedule, and more are being added throughout the semester. All classes are held at the Sandburg campus, 305 Sandburg Dr., Carthage.
This semester’s schedule includes:
• Friday, Feb. 13 – 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Food Service Sanitation – This class is for food service managers to fulfill licensing requirements. The cost of the class is $145 per person.
• Tuesday, Feb. 24 – 6-8 p.m.: Learning the Basics of Using Cricut Vinyl, Paper and Fabric Cutting Machines – This class teaches how to use the Cricut Air Explore 2 and the Cricut Maker to cut fabric, vinyl and cardstock, and to create cards using pen attachments. The cost of the class is $35 and includes all of the needed supplies.
• Tuesday, March 3 – 6-8 p.m.: Basic Cookie Decorating for Easter – Learn the basics of sugar cookie baking, frosting consistency and decorating Easter shapes. All cookies, ingredients and decorating supplies are included in the price of the class. The cost is $35 per person.
• Tuesdays, March 24, 31 and April 7 – 6-8 p.m.: Learning the Fundamentals of Calligraphy: Learn the beautiful art of calligraphy writing. All supplies are included in the $75 total price of the three-week class.
• Tuesday, April 14 – 6-8 p.m.: The Art of Stained Glass – A local artist will teach students how to create art through stained glass. The class includes all of the supplies needed to work with. The cost of the class is $40 per person.
• Tuesday, April 28 – 6-8 p.m.: Learning How to Relax Through the Calming Art of Diamond Painting – This new artistic format will help with relaxation and focus and will allow for the creation of a frameable finished piece. The cost of the class, $30, includes a kit, with several designs and sizes to choose from.
Sandburg is also expanding its summer programming as details are being finalized for the popular Kids of Campus event for youth in kindergarten through sixth grade (June 22-26), a manners camp called “Don’t Slurp the Spaghetti, for youth ages 7-11, (July 8) and a new Kids on Campus-style program for youth in grades 7-9 (July 20-24).
