Glen Richard “Rick” Weiss Jr.
75, of Bushnell
Glen Richard “Rick” Weiss Jr., 75, of Bushnell, passed away peacefully at 5:35 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born March 28, 1950, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Glen and Helen (Hall) Weiss. Rick married the love of his life, Peggy Jo Carithers, on June 28, 1980, in Smithfield.
Surviving are his devoted wife, Peggy; four children, Sarah (Eric) Stehl of Bushnell, Rebecca (Travis) Eisele of Metamora, Charity Weiss of Bushnell, and Matthew (Sookie) Weiss of Macomb; three grandsons, Ross Stehl of Bushnell, and Gideon and Abraham Eisele of Metamora; three brothers, Michael, David, and Lonnie Weiss, all of Bushnell; two sisters, Janice (Tim) Spencer of Buchanan, Michigan, and Cheryl Cromer of Macomb; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his twin sons in infancy, Charles and John Weiss; his parents; his great-nephew, Landon Cromer; and his brother-in-law, Mike Cromer.
Rick was a 1968 graduate of Bushnell-Prairie City High School. Following graduation, he enrolled at Lincoln Christian College. He later worked for more than 25 years at McGraw-Edison (Cooper Power & Porcelain Products) until the plant’s closure. Afterward, Rick returned to Lincoln Christian College to complete the theology degree he had begun many years earlier.
Rick could fix or build just about anything. He dug out and finished a basement under his family home and completely remodeled the house inside and out over the years. It was a constant work in progress and a constant source of pride for him. He also loved puzzles and games, and playing cards and dominos with friends and family. If you were curious about the weather or the latest gas prices, he would be the one to ask.
Rick spent his entire adult life in ministry, faithfully serving many churches along the way. He truly loved the Lord and sought to honor Him in everything he did. Rick helped others in any capacity needed by giving rides to appointments, sitting with parishioners in times of need, and offering comfort through simple presence. Sharing the love of Jesus was his greatest passion, and even in his final days, Rick continued to witness to the nursing staff and everyone he encountered. He was a pastor and member of Midwest New Hope Community Church in Prairie City, Illinois (formerly Prairieland Open Bible Church).
Cremation rites have been accorded by Martin-Hollis Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Midwest New Hope Community Church in Prairie City on Sunday February 15, 2026, from 2-4:30 p.m. with a short memorial service starting at 2:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midwest New Hope Community Church or the Bushnell Rescue Squad. Please sign the guestbook and leave condolences at www.martinhollisfh.com.
