Spartans Rally To Defeat Lewistown

The Bushnell-Prairie City High School boys basketball team rallied from an eight-point deficit to edge Lewistown 43-42 Tuesday evening at B-PC High School.

B-PC improved to 3-17 on the season, while Lewistown slipped to 6-14.

The two teams were tied at 11-11 following the opening eight minutes.

Both teams struggled offensively in the second period combining for just nine points. When halftime arrived, Lewistown led 17-14.

The visiting Indians opened the second half with a 5-0 run in building its biggest lead of the game at 22-14.

But the Spartans responded by outscoring Lewistown 19-7 the remainder of the frame in grabbing a 32-29 lead heading into the final stanza.

A Paul Connolly free throw with 1:52 remaining gave Lewistown a 40-39 lead.

A 3-pointer on an outof- bounds play by Connor Palm gave the Spartans the lead for good at 42-40 with just over a minute to go.

Free throws then came into play.

Lewistown made just 2-of-4 attempts, while B-PC made just 1-of-4.

Lewistown had one final chance, but on its final in-bounds play, Dylan King tipped the pass away and the clock ran out, allowing the Spartans to hang on.

De’Arion Ruffin-Thomas topped B-PC with 16 points, all coming in the first three quarters.

Palm added 11 points, 10 in the second half, followed by Ryan Adler with eight, Logan Ash with six and King with two.

Carter Sours topped Lewistown with 15 points, while Connelly added 12 for the Indians.

The Spartans will play their final home game of the season Friday night against Peoria Heights (14-9).

The Spartans will then take to the road Saturday to face Griggsville-Perry (11-10).
