Midwest Central Romps Past B-PC For Non-Conference Win

The Midwest Central High School boys basketball team proved to be a rude host against Bushnell-Prairie City Friday night.

The Raiders seized command during the latter stages of the opening quarter on the way to rolling to a 71-22 victory over the visiting Spartans.

Midwest Central improved to 12-10 on the season, while B-PC slipped to 2-17.

The contest was knotted at 8-8 midway through the initial eight minutes before Midwest Central took control.

The Raiders outscored the Spartans 19-6 the remainder of the period in taking a 27-14 lead.

The second quarter proved to be disastrous for B-PC.

The Spartans managed just one point, a free throw by De’Arion Ruffin-Thomas at the 6:14 mark.

Otherwise B-PC had 12 turnovers and missed nine shots. The Raiders converted many of those turnovers into layups, scoring 25 points in the period in building a 52-15 halftime lead.

Juniors Josh Dawe and Malachi Carroll combined for 39 of Midwest Central’s points during the opening 16 minutes.

The Raiders led 64-17 heading into the final eight minutes.

Christian Graybill topped B-PC with seven points. He also had two rebounds.

Ruffin-Thomas added six points and four rebounds, while Connor Palm finished with five points, three rebounds and three assists.

Logan Ash scored four points and grabbed a team-leading six rebounds for the Spartans, who finished with 28 turnovers.

B-PC shot 7-of-35 (20 percent) from the floor.

Dawe and Carroll topped Midwest Central with 25 points each.

Joe Proehl had four points, but a team-leading eight assists for the Raiders, while Ryan Terrill had two points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Max Denny did not score, but had seven rebounds and three blocked shots for the Raiders.

The Raiders finished 30-of-59 (50.8 percent) from the field.

The JV contest saw Midwest Central complete the sweep, notching a 60-35 victory over B-PC.

The Raiders outscored the Spartans in each period.

Midwest Central led 12-9 after the first eight minutes before building a 32-21 halftime lead.

The home team led 49-27 heading into the final frame.

Dylan King topped B-PC with eight points, while Thomas Anderson and John Malda added six points each.

Reese Klinedinst, Konnor Stewart and Oliver Chambers chipped in three points apiece, while Landon Ferguson, Charles Rudolph and Ethan Hyde each added two points.

Jason Robinson and Max Dierker topped Midwest Central with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Ten different players scored for the Raiders.

The Spartans will wrap up the home portion of their schedule this week, starting with Tuesday’s contest against Lewistown (6-13) On Friday, B-PC will celebrate senior night as the Spartans host Peoria Heights (13-8).
