Commission Recommends Zoning Change Denial

The Macomb Planning Commission voted unanimously last week to recommend denial of a petition to change the zoning at 1346 East Carroll St. from residential to general business. City Administrator Scott Coker told commissioners there is no structure on the property as the house at that address burned down and the remains were demolished.

Coker told the commission that city staff does not recommend the zoning change, and that residential zoning is in compliance with the city comprehensive plan, with that the petitioner’s request “speculative at best.” The petitioner did not appear at the meeting, and the petition stated the goal was to “expand potential uses for further development.” Commissioner John Bannon sent a letter to be read at the meeting, stating the petition “contained no developed reasoning.” Coker agreed. “There’s no plan here,” he said.
