
Bernard Murray Sr. 73, formerly of Macomb
Bernard Murray Sr. was born May 30, 1952 and passed away on January 16, 2026. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Lorraine and William Murray. He graduated from Bloom High School, then attended the College of Dupage. After that he transferred to Western Illinois University in Macomb. Bernard played collegiate football at Dupage and Western Illinois University, where he minored in education. Bernard worked at Western for 30 years and just so happened to meet the mother of his son, Tana Carr. He played football at WIU for two years before playing semi professional football for the Chicago Fire (AFL) back home in Chicago before the AFL and NFL merged.
He was a Chicago Bears, Bulls, Cubs and White Sox fan which he has passed along to his son and grandchildren. Bernard was loved dearly by any and all whom he came into contact with due to his joyous, loving, and caring nature. He was rarely seen without a huge, bright smile on his face that completely would turn a bad day around by the time the conversation finished. He was someone people could come to because he always had the most impactful advice. He will forever be missed greatly.
He is survived by his son, Bernard Murray II and wife Angie, his grandchildren Samantha and Austin, Marcus and Hayley, Angelina, and Jordan, Daniella and Rosalie which were the pride and joy of his life, his sisters, brothers, and countless neices, nephews, and several cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Hortense, his twin brother Bruce, and brothers William, Lester, and nephew Allen.
