The Bushnell-Prairie City High School baseball team closed out its regular season with a pair of contests.
On Thursday, the Spartans headed to Peoria Heights for their final Prairieland Conference contest of the season.
B-PC rallied from a fourrun deficit, only to see the Patriots walk off with a 6-5 victory.
Peoria Heights moved to 5-20 overall, 2-7 in conference play, while B-PC finished 0-9 in Prairieland play.
The game was originally for Apr. 26, but postponed due to unplayable field conditions.
The Patriots scored once in the bottom of the first before the two teams traded single runs in the fourth.
Peoria Heights added three runs in the bottom of the fifth in building a 5-1 advantage.
But the Spartans rallied by scoring four runs in the top of the seventh.
Connor Palm started the rally with a one-out single to left. Dylan King followed with a double to right, advancing Palm to third.
Talan Love singled to center, scoring Palm to make the score 5-2.
Thomas Anderson singled to center with each runner advancing an additional base on an error by the Peoria Heights’ centerfielder. That allowed King to score to close the gap to 5-3.
Zander Jones followed with a base hit to center that scored Love and Anderson to pull the Spartans even at 5-5.
The Patriots bounced back in their last at-bat, using a walk, hit batsman, sacrifice bunt, fielder’s choice and base hit to push across the winning run.
Both teams finished with 10 hits.
Anderson finished with three hits and a run scored, while King added two hits and a run scored.
Zander Jones knocked in two runs and Nick Jones and Love one each for the Spartans. Love also scored twice.
Palm pitched five innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on eight hits. He struck out five and walked one.
Zander Jones took the loss in relief, throwing 1.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits with one walk and one hit batter.
Barrett Marfell doubled and knocked in two runs for Peoria Heights. Cameron Ahart and Jorge Castro each scored twice for the Patriots with Brody Jones and Augie Kulman chipping in two hits and one run batted in apiece.
Aydin Whalen also chipped in a run batted in.
Ricky Martin pitched 6.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits. He struck out six, walked two and hit a batter.
Brayden Sherlock pitched to three batters, allowing two hits, one walk and one unearned run.
Marfell picked up the win in relief, recording the final two outs in the seventh, both on strikeouts.
On Thursday, the Spartans returned home for their regular season finale against Monmouth United.
The visiting Red Storm cruised to an 18-0, five inning victory over the hosts.
United improved to 28-4, while B-PC slid to 1-31.
The Red Storm scored five runs in the second, seven in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth.
United finished with 14 hits and one error, while B-PC had two hits and three errors.
Palm and Anderson each had a hit for the Spartans.
King pitched two-plus innings, allowing 10 runs on six hits. He struck out three, walked five and hit two batters.
Jadyn Robinson pitched three innings, allowing eight runs, five earned, on eight hits. He struck out two, walked four and hit a batter.
Egan Marshall had two hits, including a double. He scored four runs and knocked in three more for United.
Nolan Jenks also had two hits and three RBIs, while Lance Baker scored three times for the Red Storm.
Tanner Rogers pitched three innings, striking out eight and walking three, allowing one hit.
Aiden Martin pitched two innings, allowing one hit while striking out three.
B-PC was scheduled to begin Illinois High School Association Class 1A Regional play Monday, facing West Prairie (4-15) at Friendway Park in Colchester.
Monday’s winner is slated to face top-seed United (29-4) in a 5 p.m. semifinal Wednesday at Stronghurst.
Thursday’s semifinal has Abingdon-Avon (12-11) playing host West Central (5-23).
The title game is set for Saturday at 11 a.m. in Stronghurst.
