The Rotary of Macomb meets Tuesdays at noon at the First Presbyterian Church.
January 27, 2026 President Seth Minter initiated the 30th Rotary Club meeting by ringing the Rotary Bell at the First Presbyterian Church in Macomb. The invocation was delivered by Larry Adams, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Dennis Danowski.
Dennis Danowski reported attendance figures. President Seth announced ticket sales are still needed for an upcoming event on February 7, 2026, organized by the Macomb Educational Foundation—a “Dueling Pianos” fundraiser, which was attended by Rotarians last year at Park Place.
Additionally, he shared that Shelly Martin from Wesley Village will be presenting at next week’s program.
Todd Lester then introduced our speaker Bonnie Smith-Skripps, President of the McDonough County Humane Society who spoke to the group about the upcoming Casino Night fundraiser event to be held at Park Place on Saturday, March 7 to raise money for the new animal shelter.
She gave an update on the Shelter project adding that costs are now around $3 million to build the shelter, currently they have approximately $1.1 million raised.
She also noted that a new site is most likely needed, the site located by the current shelter may not be feasible due to contamination in the soil. She asked if anyone had ideas of land/ sites to please let her know.
Bonnie also bragged on the community and how much support and donations have been received by various families, organizations, businesses and local events.
Bonnie then took questions from the members and the meeting concluded with the recitation of the “Four Way Test” and the sounding of the Rotary bell, encouraging all members to make Rotary Part Of Their Life – and to “Unite For Good”.
