The Macomb City Council voted Monday to pay $16,000 in interest to MidAmerica National Bank for a loan to build a solar farm at the city sewer plant. Construction on the solar farm should begin in 2027.
The city council also approved an agreement with IMEG for $40,000 to work on a city inventory of lead in its service lines. City Administrator Scott Coker said letters have been sent to property owners about the inventory.
Aldermen also voted to authorize a Macomb Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (MACVB) application for an Illinois Arts Council grant for the 250th anniversary of the United States.
MACVB Director Jock Hedblade told council members the $15,000 grant would go toward erecting a statue of Abraham Lincoln on McDonough County Courthouse lawn.
In other business, council members approved a ground lease agreement with United Contractors Management for city-owned land at 100 Tower Road, which currently has an asphalt production plant. UCM will pay Macomb $10,000 per year for the next 10 years.
Aldermen also heard the first reading of an ordinance to amend city parking, with seven locations in the Georgetown subdivision designated as no parking areas.
