Denim Donation Drive Underway at Maurices of Macomb

Macomb High School's Clothing Closet is available to MHS students in need of clothing, and a local retailer is hosting a denim drive to bolster the closet's offerings. Through Jan. 31, Maurices of Macomb is asking area residents to donate new or gently used men's and women's jeans, which will be donated to the MHS Clothing Closet.

As a thank you, Maurices will give those who participate a coupon good for their next purchase at the Macomb retailer. Jeans can be dropped off at 1690 E.

Jackson, Ste. A.

The Macomb High School Clothing Closet, which is now located in the school's former health classroom after being located in several smaller closets throughout the school over the years, is organized and maintained by Zachary Keene's leadership class. The students in Keene's class also help to collect items, which vary from formal dresses and dress clothes to everyday clothing and winter attire and accessories. Hygiene products are also available, including laundry detergent and other household needs.

According to Macomb High School and Macomb Middle School Social Worker Erin Fink, students can access the closet by request by speaking to a teacher, the guidance office or school administrators.

And as the need for the service has increased in recent months, Fink said donations are always welcome.

'People can call, bring their gently used items to the MHS Office or contact a staff member,' Fink said. 'We have racks for shoes, clothing, formal dress wear, outerwear, bags, hygiene products and more. If you have it, we will take it. We greatly appreciate Maurices denim drive for our students.'
