Bomber Girls Work Overtime To Edge Mustangs

The Macomb High varsity girls basketball team needed overtime, but recorded a 48-46 victory over Mendon Unity Monday afternoon in the opening contest of the Jerry Logan Shootout at Carthage.

MHS improved to 12-9 on the season, while Unity slipped to 10-12.

Unity edged its way out to a 13-12 lead after the opening eight minutes before building a 23-18 halftime lead.

Saylor Barry led the Mustang charge with 10 points, while Dakota Thorman had six points for the Bombers.

MHS closed the gap to 35-32 after three quarters before pulling even at 41-41 at thr end of regulation.

In the extra session, Sophie Wilson made 3-of-4 from the free throw line, while Reese Watson also sank a pair. The Bombers outscored the Mustangs 7-5 in rallying for the victory.

Wilson led Macomb with 14 points, while Wayson also reached double figures with 10.

Jordan Hines was next with nine points, followed by Thorman and Aubrey Holthaus with six points each.

Brooklyn Lyles rounded out the MHS scoring with three points.

Barry and Kodi Duke topped Unity with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Addison Spilker added three 3-pointers, scoring nine for the Mustangs, followed by Jillian Shaffer with six, Morgan Arnsman with five and Mia Lopez with four.

The Bombers headed to Colchester Thursday, facing West Prairie/Southeastern (13-10, 1-1) in a Prairieland South Division contest.

On Saturday, the team is scheduled to head to VIT High School to face South Fulton (3-13, 0-1).

On Monday, the Bombers will face Farmington (7-12) in their senior night contest. Only a varsity game will be played starting at 6 p.m.
