Derrick Mitchell James, 48, of Macomb passed away at 3:40 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2026 at his residence.
He was born on November 14, 1977 in Macomb to Mitchell Dean and Brenda Joan Waddill James.
Derrick is survived by his mother, Brenda James of Macomb; sister, Joanna ((Corey) Johnson of North Liberty, Iowa; one niece, Marissa Johnson of North Liberty, Iowa; aunts and uncles, Connie McEntire, Bill (Leanne) Waddill, Les (Melissa) Waddill, Cynthia (Kenith) Beckner, Carol Goforth, Charlotte (Mike) Nelson, Mike (Donna) James and Greg (Anna) James and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; Mitchell James; maternal and paternal grandparents and cousin, Evan James.
Derrick lived most of his life in Macomb. He was self-employed as an independent contractor at McDonough District Hospital. He was a graduate of Northwestern High School in 1996.
He enjoyed landscaping, outside work and spending time with his family.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Clugston- Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Private family burial of ashes will be held at Glade City Cemetery in Blandisnville.
