Macomb’s new $44 million water plant should be operational by late August 2028, Public Works Director Alice Ohrtmann told the City Council on Monday.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency will review the project and examine the city’s construction permit application through Jan. 29, 2026, Ohrtmann said. The loan approval process should be completed around July 20, with construction beginning in August.
In other business, aldermen examined a request for an ADA lift at the cemetery office.
“Several people have had trouble getting up the steps,” Ohrtmann said.
St. Paul School will donate the lift from a recently acquired property. Cemetery Sexton Mike Fisher estimated installation costs at $36,000, plus another $10,000 for concrete and electrical work.
The council also discussed an easement request from Prairie Power to access a power pole it purchased along Wigwam Hollow Road. Prairie Power bought the pole from McDonough Power Cooperative, but the city needs documentation verifying the purchase, Ohrtmann said.
